Yesterday, I was delighted to have been given the opportunity to present a petition to parliament which calls for fair transitional arrangements for women born in the 1950’s who are affected by changes to the state pension age.
When the changes to Pensions Act 2011 were made, women from my
constituency of Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill – as well as many others in
the UK were left facing hardship. These women have unfairly borne the burden of
the increase to the State Pension Age which has had devastating consequences.
I
am pleased to see these woman and other members of the community coming
together to sign this petition and hope the Government make necessary arrangements
for all women born in the 1950’s who have been unfairly affected by the
changes.
